Thailand

In front of Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao in Lampang (fig.) is a small roundabout with a monument that refers to the etymological origin of the temple's name.

According to legend, a senior monk of the temple one day found an emerald stone inside a watermelon, which he had carved into a precious Buddha image, with the word for watermelon in Northern-Thai dialect being ‘mahk tao’.
