This shrubby plant
with a compact foliage grows up to 5 meters tall and is typically used as an
ornamental garden plant, as well as in shared edges. It has colourful curly
leaves and small inconspicuous dark-red flowers, that are arranged in
clusters on cylindrical catkin-like racemes of between 10 and 20 centimeters
in length and partly hidden in the foliage. In
Thai, it is known as
hoo plah son.
