A young male Nilgai in the National Zoological Park of Delhi, India. Males or bulls have a dark coat (fig.) with a bluish tinge, as well as short conical horns, and are at first glance somewhat similar in appearance to the Mainland Serow (fig.).

Female Nilgai have a short yellow-brown coat, and no horns.
