A herd of male and female
Nilgai spotted
in the steppe of
Rajasthan, India. The males are somewhat similar in appearance to the
Mainland Serow
(fig.),
with an erectile mane on the back of the neck and short conical horns, but additionally
they have a
goat-like beard on the midsection of the throat. Both sexes have a
white throat bib and white spots on the cheeks, as well as a narrow white
stripe along the underside of the body and white colouring on the lower legs
and near the lips.
