Mwe Phaya, known in English as Snake Temple (fig.), is a Buddhist temple at Myitnge near Mandalay, dedicated to the naga (fig.), as well as to snakes in general (fig.).

 

There are several galleries with Buddha images in the pahng nahg prok pose, yet all with a Buddha images with a bhumisparsa (fig.).

There is also a statue of Shin U Pagok (fig.), the deity that guards water. It is flanked by nagas, who —as guardians of the the earthly waters (fig.)— fulfill a similar role.
