The escutcheon of
Mukdahan
shows the picture of
prasat Song Nang
Satit. Under the middle spire lays a brilliant pearl (mukda) displayed on a
phaan with a
pah thip.
Under both the left and right spire stands a
bai sri
and in the background the spire of the
stupa of
Phrathat Phanom can be seen with rays of the sun. The pearl
refers to the beauty and name of the city, whilst the spire of Phrathat Phanom
points to the fact that the city once was an
amphur of
Nakhon Phanom
before breaking away (han) and becoming a provincial capital itself, in 1982.
