PROVINCIAL ESCUTCHEON

Mukdahan

The escutcheon of Mukdahan shows the picture of prasat Song Nang Satit. Under the middle spire lays a brilliant pearl (mukda) displayed on a phaan with a pah thip. Under both the left and right spire stands a bai sri and in the background the spire of the stupa of Phrathat Phanom can be seen with rays of the sun. The pearl refers to the beauty and name of the city, whilst the spire of Phrathat Phanom points to the fact that the city once was an amphur of Nakhon Phanom before breaking away (han) and becoming a provincial capital itself, in 1982.
