  Prince of Chumphon

Statue of Mo Phon or ‘Dr. Phon’, the Prince of Chumphon, the Prince Admiral Aphakon Kiatiwong and Father of the Royal Thai Navy at Wat Khao Chong Krachok, on the peak of Khao Chong Krachok. He was also a doctor of medicine with a particular interest in herbal medicine.

 

This is here represented in the tool in his front, known as hin bot yah, a tool used by pharmacists and medical doctors of the past, to pulverize medicinal herbs (fig.). The admiral-doctor and brother to King Rama VI is here wearing a leisurely royal chalong phra ong shirt.
