Meng Po, the Lady of Forgetfulness in Chinese mythology, who serves in Diyu, the realm of the dead, where she ensures that the souls, who are ready to be reincarnated, do not remember their previous life nor their atonement in hell, by giving each soul the Five-flavoured Tea of Forgetfulness, which causes instant and permanent loss of memory (fig.).
