In the old town of Lijiang (fig.) there are some Naxi men, that go around with a bird of prey on their arm.

Whereas they may have previously held the bird for hunting, they now invite tourists and visitors to take their bird on the arm for a souvenir picture.

Hence, the Lijiang bird men with their pet birds have themselves become a real attraction in their own right.

A few Naxi men actually still carry on the ancient Chinese tradition of hunting with birds of prey, such as golden eagles which are taken from their nests when still young, a practice which is rarely found in other parts of China today, except for Xinjiang.
