The Mahaparinirvana of the Buddha is depicted as a reclining Buddha, as in this Phra Phutta Sayait image from Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon (fig.) in Ayutthaya. It is one of the four iryapatha (fig.), though this pose does not necessarily represent the mahaparinirvana.
