Pygmy Damselfly
Common name
for a species of small damselfly, with the scientific designation Agriocnemis
pygmaea. Full grown adults are mostly pale green below and black above, with
some light blue colouring on the flanks and on the top sides of the body. The
top half of its eyes are brownish-black whereas the bottom half is
yellowish-green. The wings are transparent with dark veining. The female has
several forms, according to the different stages of growth. Pygmy Damselflies
are rather common and widely distributed throughout Thailand, especially around
paddy fields in lowland areas. In Thai, it is known as malaeng poh khem krae (แมลงปอเข็มแคระ),
a literal translation of the English common name.
