Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphin
Common name for a marine mammal in the family Delphinidae which is also known as Pink Dolphin and Chinese White Dolphin. It is of the genus Sousa and has the scientific name Sousa chinensis. In Thailand, there is a population that habitually dwells in the waters off the coast of Donsak in
Surat Thani province, and which has a pinkish skin, a colour that stems from its overdeveloped blood vessels used for thermoregulation, i.e. the ability to keep its body temperature within certain boundaries, even when the surrounding temperature is very different. Also simply referred to as Humpback Dolphin. See also THEMATIC STREET LIGHT.
