RELIGION & MYTHOLOGY

  Ji Jiao Gui

China

Statue of the Chinese-Taoist ghost Ji Jiao Gui, i.e. Chicken Feet Ghost, at Fengdu Ghost City (fig.). He is one of the four guardians at the gate of the Emperor's Hall in Diyu, i.e. Hell. This demon has a black complexion, bulging eyes, and is portrayed with a long protruding tongue and holding a metal chain.

Though partly obstructed by a concrete ridge, it can here be seen that he has chicken-like feet (fig.) complete with spores, from which his name derives.
