The
king of Benares, spots the
Kinnara
Canda with his beloved
Candah, enjoying
themselves near a stream in
the mountains of
Himavah. |
The king fell in love with
Candah, took his bow and shot Canda with an arrow. |

The grief-stricken Candah wept and lamented aloud at the
sight of her dead husband. |
Hence,
the king revealed
himself and offered her his love, as well as his
kingdom. |

Yet, Candah ridiculed the offer and instead protested to the
devas
for allowing the tragedy to take place, and prayed for a
miracle. |
This prompted
Indra,
the chief of the devas, to come in the
guise of a
brahmin and
resurrect Canda.
