The flowers of the
Barbados Cherryor
West Indian Cherry,typically have five
pink petals that are usually slightly different in size, fringed and somewhat
spatula-shaped, whereas the stamens are pale with yellow anthers.
It bears
green to bright red
drupes that are divided into three
indistinct lobes (fig.).
These acid fruits are circa 2cm in diameter, thin-skinned, juicy and high in
Vitamin C. The one in the photo is not yet fully ripe.
