Chua Bai Dinh in Ninh Binh
purportedly is
Vietnam's
largest
Buddhist temple complex. The compound consists of both
ancient and
new structures, including a 34 meter tall hall with a
facade of over 59 meters long; a tall, slender
pagoda; and a huge outdoor statue
of
Maitreya,
elevated centrally on a hill. It is part of the
Trang An eco-tourism area and is since
2014 listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (fig.)
under the name Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, which also
includes
Tam Coc (fig.)
and
Bich Dong (fig.),
as well as
Hoa Lu.
