sand pagodas
As in Thailand (fig.), the people of Myanmar also practice the building of sand pagodas, a kind of folk amusement reminiscent of sand castles on a beach.
Here, on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River (fig.) near Bagan, the stupas represent replicas of existing structures.
