The Mahaparinirvana of the Buddha is depicted as a reclining Buddha, as in this Phra Phoet Saiyaat image from Wat Yai Chai Mongkon (fig.) in Ayutthaya and the one at Wat Phra Chetuphon (fig.) in Bangkok. It is one of the four iryapatha (fig.), although this pose does not necessarily represents the mahaparinirvana.
