Gipao
is the name for the traditional Chinese form-fitting, one-piece dress
for women,
that originated in the
1920s in Shanghai, and features a standing, closed collar, known as the
Mandarin
collar, a fitted bodice, and a straight, narrow skirt that falls to the ankles,
and here adorned with floral patterns. It is fastened with small, decorative
fasteners called ‘frogs’, rather than with buttons. |
