Nipa palms are a species of palm that -like mangrove- thrive near coastal areas, but away from wave action. Hence, it is also known by the name mangrove palm.

It has a horizontal trunk that grows beneath the ground and only the leaves, the inflorescence and fruit stalk (fig.) grow upwards above the surface.
