The semi-artificial island of Koh Panyi in Phang Nga Bay (fig.), named after the forest bandit Misara Panyi (fig.), i.e. a disguise of Prince Inao (fig.).

 

Here, Islamic sea gypsies, that ‒like the story Inu Panyee Karatapati‒ originate from Java, live on pile dwellings built against the face of a sheer cliff.
