bai makrud (kaffir leaves)
Kaffir leaves, called bai makrud in Thai, typically grow vertically in pairs, one on top of the other, somewhat like the shape of a hourglass.
They are widely used in Thai cuisine for their aromatic qualities, both fresh and dried (fig.). Their upper surface is slightly darker their bottom.
