Amongst the most commonly found varieties of
hibiscuses
in Thailand, is the Hibiscus
schizopetalus which is commonly known as Japanese Lantern. In Thai, it is called
phu reua hong, phu rahong or
haang
hong. It is grown as an ornamental shrub or small tree and bears red flowers that hang from long stems and are easily distinguished by their ruffled petals and elongated pistil.
