A female Asian Koel of the subspecies Eudynamys scolopaceus malayana, which is overall more brown than females of the nominate race (fig.).

The back, rump and wing coverts are dark brown with mostly buff spots, whilst the striped, streaked, spotted or barred underparts are brown and buff  near the breast and throat, and more whitish towards the belly and vent.
