Da hong se qiu zha are
decorative items consisting of ribbons with a large red
pom-pom made from fabric, typically used to tie around
sacred objects in temples during auspicious events.
The red pom-pom ribbons are also tied around the bodies of Taoist deities and various statues, such as the necks of guardian lions called
rui shi (fig.), as well as other objects like incense burners.
