TRADITIONS & UTENSILS

  codhumbi (tuft of hair)

India

A Brahmin priest wearing a codhumbi, a tuft of hair on the back of an otherwise shaved head, at a spot known as bindu chakra, i.e. the ‘circle of drops’.

Brahmins believe that there a fluid is produced, which can become either amrita, the elixir of immortality, or the poison of death.
