Buddha covered in small Buddha images

Myanmar

A bronze Buddha image, with a body that is completely covered in countless small Buddha images, which are believed to represent his previous incarnations, said to total 550. It is a copy a 45 cm tall Buddha image at the Lawkananda Zedi in Sittwe, in Myanmar's Rakhine State, and which is claimed to be 2,000 years old.

This image, in a Buddhist hall at the foot of Mount Popa (fig.), is reminiscent of a certain form of Avalokitesvara known as Radiating Avalokitesvara (fig.).
