Fresh blood cockles, also commonly known as blood clams and characterized by the reddish, haemoglobin-rich liquid found inside their soft tissues.
The species is valued as a seafood, often served steamed, boiled, or raw. In Thai, these bivalve mollusks are known as hoi khraeng.
