  fireballs of the naga

Thailand

Here, on the Mekhong river in Nong Khai, at the end of ouk phansa, the phenomenon of bangfai phayanaag annualy takes places, in which soundless, smokeless and scentless fireballs shoot up from the deepest, Laotian side of the river.

These fireballs float silently into the air, tens of meters and sometimes up to 300 meters high. Legend has it that they come from the naga. Since it is a local phenomenon it is displayed on the city's riverside handrails.
