have a soft herbaceous stem, that is made up of leaves
that wrap round each other, forming what appears to be a
trunk.
This
often leads to these plants mistakenly being referred to
as trees.
Uniquely, Thailand has a variety
that can produce more than a thousand fruits from just
one flower called
gluay roy wie (fig.).
