The fruit of the
pineapple grows from the centre of a
prickly plant, of which there are many different species. One species, i.e.
red pineapple (Ananas bracteatus), has a reddish colour (fig.)
and is used as an ornamental plant in homes and gardens.
Pineapple plants thrive on dry ground and bare fruit up to three times, after which the plant needs to be replaced.
