Water Snowflake
Common name
for an aquatic plant, which is also commonly known as Floating
Hearts and that bears the botanical name
Nymphoides indicum and listed in the family Menyanthaceae. In Thai,
it is known as bua ba (บัวบา). It bears flowers with five petals
that are either yellow or white with a yellow core, and that are
covered in small hairs. The flowers of the Water Snowflake
feature on a Thai postage stamp issued in 1996
as part of a set of stamps on Beautiful and Useful Water Plants
(fig.),
to mark new year 1997.
