Spirit houses are usually erected next to each other, in pairs. The larger one with just one leg is known as sahn phra phum and often houses a jawed.

The smaller one is called sahn chao thih and typically has four and sometimes six legs (fig.). Usually tables for offerings are put up in front of the spirit houses.
