An  octagonal trigram with a yin-yang symbol (fig.) in its centre is used for fortune telling. Trigrams can be displayed in any order and the one shown here is arranged with the three unbroken lines () that represent Heaven in the Northeast, its corresponding direction, and opposite of the three broken lines (), that represent Earth. Clockwise, beginning from the North this arrangement is: Wind (), Water (), Mountain (), Earth (), Thunder (), Fire (), Marsh () and Heaven ().
