Mindon Min, one of the
most popular and revered Burmese monarchs, who ruled
Burma from 1853 AD to 1878. This statue is located at the
entrance
of the
Kuthodaw Pagoda (fig.)
at the foot Mandalay
Hill, which houses
the world's largest book, i.e.
a version of the
Tipitaka,
which is
inscribed onto 729 marble
steles
(fig.).
