A famous curiosity in Samut Songkhram is the railway market in Mae Klong's city center (fig.), referred to in Thai as Talaat Rom Hoop, which freely translates as ‘Shadow Valley Market’.

Local vendors set up shop alongside the rail tracks and each time a train is due to pass by, the vendors simply step aside and fold away the awnings.
