VENOMOUS!
This beetle has a
higly potent toxin that contains
paederin, which is
released when the beetle
comes into contact with
the
skin, causing severe
blistering,
a condition known as
paederus dermatitis.
Initial symptoms include
skin reddening and a
burning sensation,
followed by painful
irritation and itching.
If left untreated, this
can lead to extensive
pustules and blistering
within days. Contact with
the eyes can result in
blindness. Treatment:
Wash the area thoroughly
with soap and water to
remove the toxin. Apply
soothing agents or
corticosteroid creams
for inflammation. Seek
medical attention if
symptoms are severe or
worsen. |
