The building houses a laboratory of the Science Division, where the BCG vaccine, which is used to prevent tuberculosis, is produced and tested. The laboratory opened on 4 April 1953, after King Bhumiphon in 1951 donated 500,000 Baht to the project from his private funds, following the 1950 initiative of the WHO and UNICEF, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health's Department of Hygiene, to attempt to stop the presence of TBC in Thailand.
