  Rahu on Garuda

Thailand

A unique image of the demon Rahu standing on Garuda, prior to losing his legs, at Tantra Thewala, i.e. the ‘Tantra Idol Shrine’, which is also known as Wat Phra Siwa Chao, i.e. the ‘Lord Shiva Temple’, in Bangkok (fig.). Rahu depicted riding Garuda symbolizes the contrast between good and evil, with Garuda representing virtue and protection against evil forces, while Rahu embodies chaos and illusion. This imagery highlights the ongoing struggle between light and darkness in the cosmic order.
