   Gandhi Memorial

One of the rooms at the Gandhi Memorial in Delhi shows the simple living quarters of Mahatma Gandhi (fig.).

 

Also on display are some of his few personal belongings, including the iconic glasses which he wore in his later life. The garden of the memorial has a pavilion erected over the exact spot where Gandhi was shot dead. In front of it are bas-reliefs of the vey last footsteps he took on this earth, starting from his living room.

The pavilion has a marker stone, known as the Martyr's Column, which is engraved with Gandhi's last words, i.e. He Ram, which translates as ‘Oh Rama’ or ‘Oh God’.
