   Lotus Temple

India

These large white petals of the Lotus Temple in Delhi are made of marble imported from Greece, as the local Indian marble proved too heavy for this kind of construction.

It has a height of 34.27 metres, is 70 metres wide, and officially opened on 24 December 1986. This Baha'i temple belongs to a religion that teaches the essential worth of all religions and the unity and equality of all people.

It is hence not dedicated to one single religion, but instead it invites people of all faiths to come in and pray. Its design occurs also in Wat Pah Dong Rai (fig.), a Buddhist temple in Thailand's Udonthani province.
