Sunda Striped Skink
Common name of a small,
arboreal lizard belonging to the family Scincidae and also commonly
referred to as the Banded Lipinia, Sipora Striped Skink, and Common
Striped Skin, and with the binomial name Lipinia vittigera. It is
characterized by its streamlined body, longitudinal stripes, and a
distinctive orange tail. Distributed across Southeast Asia,
including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, this species inhabits
tropical forests, where it is frequently observed on trees, shrubs,
and leaf litter. It is diurnal and insectivorous, feeding primarily
on small invertebrates, and plays a significant ecological role by
contributing to insect population control and serving as prey for
larger predators. Its agility and vibrant appearance make it an
integral component of the region’s forest ecosystems. It is native
to
Myanmar,
Thailand,
Vietnam,
Malaysia,
Singapore and
Cambodia.
Known in Thai as
jing lehn ton mai haang som (จิ้งเหลนต้นไม้หางส้ม),
i.e.
‘orange-tailed
tree skink’.
