Siam Insect Zoo
Name of an entomology museum, with a live insect
facility,
located in
Mae Rim,
Chiang Mai.
It has a considerable anthology of all kinds
of creepy-crawlies, including a very large collection of butterfly
species. Most species on display are endemic to
Thailand and the region, though Siam Insect Zoo also features
a few
rare alien creatures, such as the giant African Goliathus goliathus
and Goliathus orientalis, both
from Congo, that with a body length of up to 11 centimeters are
among the
largest square beetles in the world. Whereas the museum with dead
bugs is indoors, the
live insects are caged outside, in the zoo's garden area, which
includes a butterfly garden.
