An Indian Darter drying its wings at a lake near Bharatpur. This cormorant-like bird (fig.) is also known as Oriental Darter, and is nicknamed Snakebird as well, owing to its slender, snake-like neck.

Due to insufficient oil in its feathers, this bird has to open and dry its wings after each dive in the water.
