  Hellfire Pass Memorial

The infamous Hellfire Pass, nowadays a war memorial in Kanchanaburi Province, is situated about 80 km Northwest of the city town centre. Formerly known as the Hellfire Pass Memorial, it is since end of 2018 officially known as Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre and Memorial Walking Trail.

 

It was officially opened in April 1998 and includes a 4.5 km hiking trail, a museum, and several commemorative plaques related to the victims of the construction of the Death Railway.

At the cutting stands a monument with in the back the Thai national flag, flanked by the flags of the nations whose prisoners of war were forced to labour here, including Australia, the Netherlands, Britain and the United States.
