  Burmese jewellery boxes

Burmese trinket boxes are typically carved from wood and designed in the form of an animal. At the top of the box, i.e. on the back of the animal, is a rectangular lid that comes off by sliding it backward, thus opening the box and revealing the cavity where the objects can be stored (fig.).
