A venomous and potentially deadly Yellow-banded Krait (fig.) or simply Banded Krait. It has alternate black and pale yellow bands of almost equal width, that encircle its body and tail.

 

In Thai, it is known as ngu saam liam, which literally means ‘triangular snake’ and refers to the elevated vertebral ridge.

VENOMOUS! This snake has a strong neurotoxic venom and envenomation through its bite, though often painless, is deadly! Without administration of serum death can occur after just 30 minutes. Its bite can cause moderate to severe flaccid paralysis, respiratory failure. All cases should be treated as urgent and potentially lethal. Thailand Antivenom Code: SAsPBF01
