  pineapple

Thailand

The fruit of the pineapple grows from the centre of a prickly plant, of which there are many different species. One species, i.e. red pineapple (Ananas bracteatus), has a reddish colour (fig.) and is used as an ornamental plant in homes and gardens.

Pineapple plants thrive on dry ground and bare fruit up to three times, after which the plant needs to be replaced. See also List of Thai Botanical Names.
