  fish mobile

Thailand

A popular hanging artwork is the fish mobile, made with fish folded from either palm leaves called bai lahn, from real paper money, or just from coloured or painted paper. The fish (fig.) is said to represent a barb, a kind of miniature carp, and is believed to bring prosperity (fig.). Fish mobiles are usually referred to as pla taphian sahn, and those made from palm leaves are called pla taphian sahn bai lahn.
