  Atlas Moth

PREVIOUS MOTH NEXT MOTH Thailand

Thailand has many species of nocturnal butterflies, including this large male Atlas Moth. It is also known as the snake headed moth due to the crude resemblances to snakes heads on the wing tips, that are thought to ward off potential predators.

It is related to ‒and similar in appearance to‒ the Ailanthus Silkmoth (fig.). See also List of Thai Insect Names.
